Why your business must have a book and how to get it!

A book can be a huge asset to your business for many reasons. Here are my top five reasons.

Your book is your business card

Your book can act like a business card on steroids. Unlike a tiny card a book is memorable. It will have your face on the back, and maybe the front too making you memorable.

Unlike business cards people rarely throw away books, especially if they have been personalised and autographed. How prestigious is that?

I am not suggesting you should go to networking meetings with a stack of books and attempt to work the room with them on a sack trolley. But having one or two copies tucked away in your briefcase to give to people that are great connections. Don’t forget to have a stylish pen to sign it!

Expert Status

Your book sets you apart as an expert … an authority … and the term authority has the same root as the word author!

If people saw you as an expert, what would that do for your business? And you are the expert, which is why clients come to you, but having your own book will help them see you this way. Your book gives you increased authority.

It sets you apart from the competition. You must be an expert, right? After all, what do people say when they are talking about an expert? “They wrote the book on it!”.

I know authors who have been asked to speak as experts on radio and TV shows because they had written book. Do you think this gave them more visibility? More kudos? Ultimately, more clients? Yes.

Media Attention

I know many authors. People like you who have expertise. As authors they find themselves being interviewed in the press, on radio and TV. They are asked for expert advice and find that doors, once closed to them, are now open.

Do they know more than they did before they wrote their book? No, they already had qualifications and years of experience. They were able to write their book because they were experts.

So why are they being interviewed now? It is just a matter of perception. Their qualifications are the same as those of their colleagues and they have similar levels of experience … the difference is the book. They have become an AUTHORITY.
